I've been dying to do something edgier and moodier for a while, and thankfully I have AWESOME, HOT friends who are just as crazy as me and are willing to help me make that happen. Oh, the looks we got in little Buena Vista... priceless. I came home from this shoot reeking of cigarette smoke and covered in glitter and champagne and everything was absolutely amazing. I think one of my favorite parts about this shoot is knowing that all these wonderful tattooed kids met in Australia...in Bible college :)Enjoy our dark-smoky-juvenile delinquent-wild child-rainbow-glitter-champagne-bathtub party shoot :)
My friend & former housemate Jenn (in the tutu) was driving down the street and saw us shooting. She pulled over to laugh at us and ended up abandoning her car on the side of Main Street and joining the shoot. I can't imagine it without her!
Then on to the bathtub glitter rainbow party. Which was RIDICULOUS. By this point, everyone's like, "Can we stop smoking yet?" And I'm like, "Definitely not. But now you can start drinking that champagne." We dumped SO MUCH glitter everywhere, and it didn't quite show up as well as I had hoped, but it is now permanently caked in everything we own.
Love you guys. Hardcore :)
Spring is in the air (well, figuratively speaking still) and my mind is spinning with all kinds of fun ideas. This is the first shoot of sort of a personal project that's pretty much just for my own entertainment - I have hundreds of crazy ideas in the back of my mind, but a lot of hypothetical shoots haven't found the right people yet. But this one did! For the longest time, I've been in love with some of the really creative wedding chuppahs I've seen - some are made out of strings of flowers, or twigs, or ribbons - and I've always wanted to shoot an outdoor wedding that used one. After unsuccessfully trying to talk some couples into using one, I realized that I just liked the way they looked and started coming up with my own ideas :)So one night I was mulling this over while screwing around on Facebook, and I saw a post from Moriah, one of my favorite kindred spirits / clients-turned-friends, and I realized at that instant that she was completely perfect for this shoot and it all sort of fell into place. We ended up wandering around in the frozen woods with tons of clothes and all this random awesome stuff. The light was perfect. It was so windy we almost got knocked out by my homemade chuppah / circus tent a few times when it blew down, but thankfully no injuries... that might be tricky to explain :)
Vintage Ferragamo heels, which I inherited from my amazingly stylish grandmother:
A few shots on the Holga lens... I'm loving this rainbow lens flare! Hmm... I wonder if that's why they don't recommend shooting into the sun...
Thank you so much, Moriah - love you girl! You're amazing :)
If you love the camera, love to have fun, and want some super-discounted and quite possibly FREE senior portraits, look no further! Cedar House is in search of a few Senior Models from the class of 2012. We're looking for upcoming seniors from all over Colorado who have a great sense of style and who are active in their schools & communities. The more friends you refer, the more free stuff you earn! The Senior Model program has changed a bit since last year, so if you think you might be interested, send me an email (molly@cedarhousephotography.com) or a Facebook message, and I'll give you all the details as well as a link to a quick questionnaire.
I absolutely LOVE senior sessions! Definitely one of my favorite things ever - we have so much fun. Can't wait to hear from you!
Earlier this year, I sent out a pretty cryptic Facebook request for some totally random props - colored wigs, bows and arrows, feathered wings, schoolgirl clothes, things made out of leather... I'm sure everyone thought I was totally nuts. Well... here are the results! In February, I got to be a part of the most super fun project of pretty much ever, working with the teen program of the Pikes Peak Library District in Colorado Springs to shoot images for a series of posters promoting teen literacy. While other libraries have done similar READ projects, they usually use images of famous people holding their favorite books - but we decided to style some shoots based on novels that the teens chose, and we recreated images from these books as if they were movie posters. Our goal wasn't to stage specific scenes from the books, but to try to visually convey the style and feel of the plot. Over the course of four days, we lugged camera equipment, props, teens, and parents all over the Springs - this project was massive. It was so much fun to style these shoots with the library and the teen models and try to capture the feel of each book through locations, props, makeup, and crazy costumes. I have to wait to show the final posters until they are officially unveiled at the Briargate branch, but here are a few of my favorite behind-the-scenes shots. A HUGE thank you to all of our models, who braved freezing temps and my craziness; to their parents for all of their help & chauffeuring ; to all of the wonderful people who lent us props and costumes; to Miramont Castle for letting us run all over their beautiful castle grounds and play dead in their hallways; and especially to Lindsay from the library, who organized, planned, and coordinated this massive project to perfection!First, the shoot based on the novel Maximum Ride :
Day two : the Sherlock Holmes shoot at Miramont Castle (which happens to be staffed by some of the kindest, sweetest people ever)
Creepy stabbing shadow!
Next, the manga / anime shoot! We used this awesome video tutorial for the makeup. Actually, all of her makeup tutorials are strangely soothing...
And finally, the shoot based on The Hunger Games - which will be made into a movie in the next year or so! I'll be curious to see how they style it. It should be mentioned that, when we did this shoot, it was SO FREEZING COLD. We brought blankets, hand warmer packets, and a heating pad... and then the heating pad exploded and started leaking all over everything! These ladies are exceptionally wonderful for running around in the snow for hours. You guys are the best! Great job - you don't even look cold... even though I know how much you were shivering.
Okay, I guess I lied... that was way more than a "few" images :) Thanks again to everyone who was involved!
