This fall, I had the privilege of collaborating on a shoot with a few of my photographer friends. We styled a shoot based on the myth of Persephone and Hades, and our prints were displayed at a local coffee shop. So much fun! A special thanks to our lovely models (Taylor as Persephone and Alex as Hades), who made the shoot what it was.The myth of Persephone (loosely paraphrased) is that Persephone, the beautiful daughter of Zeus and Demeter, is seduced / kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld, using a poisoned pomegranate. She disappears to go live with Hades, and the world plunges into winter. Her mother, Demeter, comes to her rescue, and strikes a deal with Hades to let Persephone live above-ground for half of the year and then she'll return to the underworld for the other half of the year. This is one of many explanations for the changing seasons. For some reason, I've loved this myth ever since I was a kid. Cheers!
I also shot some video during this shoot, and I hope to be able to put it together soon!
Can I just say, I LOVE style shoots?! They're so relaxed, there's nowhere to be, nobody waiting for you, you get to work with wedding friends, and of course, everything looks amazing...I love them! I am so incredibly lucky to work with wonderful partners in the industry, including one of my very own former brides, who does the loveliest print design and is getting into event design as well. I fell in love with Paige of Peekay Soirees when I worked with her at Casidy's wedding, and how fun is it that I get to work with both of them, AND Casidy's great stylist extraordinaire, all in one shoot! The Kentucky Derby was a perfect springtime theme (great idea Casidy!) Thanks to so many wonderful vendors, and of course our lovely models, we pulled off this shoot without a hitch. And then got to play with some horses and drink mint juleps, even.
Super duper thanks to everyone involved!

A huge thank-you to everyone involved!
I was in New Orleans this last week for Imaging USA, and I got a chance to hang out with Aviva, a tanner, double-dutch champion, and long-lost friend from college, who just so happens to be the most incredible warrior princess ever. I've always loved Aviva's style, and it was amazing to wander around a city this cool with a person this cool and take pictures.
I'm in love with the colors on this building:
We found an old carriage covered in rusted tin pieces and turquoise fabric and awesome little things. She told me it's some kind of art installation, and when it's open, the inside of the carriage is filled with dioramas. Even though it was closed, it was one of the coolest things to randomly run into on the street - it made me think of the Headless Horseman and gypsies. I think I was probably making some sort of little girl squealing noises when I saw this :)
Aviva - thanks for being so gloriously awesome. So glad we got to hang out!
This is my lovely friend Whitney. She lives in this awesome school bus, and as soon as she told me she had painted a mustache on the front, I knew we had to do a shoot. I'm pretty jealous, actually. It was my last shoot in living in BV and it was perfect.
My Holga lens in these next few shots made the sky look so much more dramatic:
One of my (many) favorites:
Whitney - you're the best, love!
