chandra & jeff’s denver wedding reception (denver wedding photographer)
Okay, here comes part three of Chandra & Jeff’s epic wedding week – their fabulous reception at the Skyline Ballroom at the Courtyard Mariott in Denver!
I love it when couples hire a photo booth – it means tons of great funky props gradually make their way on to the dance floor :)
This is why I love Chandra.
Thanks again for everything, guys! It’s been so wonderful getting to know you :)

lindsay & aaron (salida wedding photographer)
What began as love between a handsome bearded fisherman and a Katrina-refugee artist developed into this fabulous eclectic wedding and will continue on to a beautiful marriage as Lindsay & Aaron begin their life together. Seersucker suits. Louboutins. Cruiser bikes. Pedicabs. Balloons. Two amazing dresses, paired with two amazing veils. Live jazz band. One amazing historic art deco home. I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this wedding! I know a lot of you have been anxious to see the results of this fabulous day – enjoy your preview! The rest of your images will be ready soon :)
Lindsay, you are absolutely radiant!
Lindsay looked especially lovely, thanks to my dear friend Peter at Mr. Beauty. Oh, how I love working with Peter!
Lindsay & Aaron’s families stayed at the Heister House in Salida – this totally amazing art deco home that’s available for rent (and listed on the National Register of Historic Places!) I love love LOVED shooting there. And how crazy amazing is this gigantic bow veil? I could have NEVER pulled it off – which is what makes me love Lindsay even more – she totally can :) This girl has some serious style, in ways that I can only dream about. Both veils were custom made by Sara Gabriel.
Love the Heister House and love dress #1 from J Crew!
One of the wonderful things about Salida is how most things are within walking and biking distance. Since the ceremony at First United Methodist is only a few blocks away from the reception at the Salida Steamplant, most of the guests rode their cruisers, and Lindsay and Aaron took a pedicab :)
Guestbook? Nah. A signed paddle is way cooler :)
Dress #2 : A custom tea-length creation by the utterly fabulous Stephanie James. I really cannot begin to explain how much I love the blue tulle. I’m tempted to try, but my love for this dress is totally beyond words.
We had perfect lighting. Perfect.
At one point during the reception, I overheard Lindsay & a guest talking about me. Lindsay referred to me as ” this awesome indie photographer”. This totally delighted me.
I always love shooting at the Salida Steamplant! What an excellent venue.
Unsuspecting dude catching the bouquet = do-over.
Lindsay & Aaron – you guys are wonderful! I absolutely loved your wedding and I was thrilled to be a part of your festivities :)

shalisa & nate (denver engagement photographer)
Okay… I seriously debated splitting this engagement session into two separate posts. Then I debated splitting it into three posts, because, really, each location we hit could have stood on it’s own.
Meet Shalisa & Nate. I’ll be shooting their wedding next summer (yay!) She wasn’t totally sure how she found me, but she’s been blog-stalking me for a while, which makes me happy :) What she doesn’t know is that I’ve totally been Facebook stalking her! When Shalisa contacted me for wedding info, I looked her up on Facebook, and she was downright, amazingly GORGEOUS. I knew that I really, really wanted to shoot her wedding, just as much as she really, really, wanted to have me shoot it. It’s a match made in heaven – almost as good as her match with Nate, right? ;) Ever since she booked me, we’ve been exchanging ideas and information like crazy people :) So who knows – if you’ve been blog-stalking me, let me know!
So we put this shoot together, combining Nate (DJ Sounds Supreme, woot woot! )’s DJ skills with Shalisa’s amazing style. We hit up three amazing locations, using Nate’s DJ skills as inspiration for all three. I LOVE THIS SHOOT. Aah! The wedding promises to be truly amazing :) Prepare yourself for a mind-blowing quantity of images.
Location #1: Wax Trax in Denver. Big, big thanks for letting us be silly all around your store.
Location #2 – The Beauty Bar, a retro bar / club/ salon. If you’re in Denver, and you’ve never been, you MUST GO. You can get a martini at the same time as you get a manicure, and the flipping walls are entirely flipping covered with flipping glitter. Need I say more?
How hot are these two? I mean, like… DAMN.
Location # 3- homemade outdoor dance party. This is why I love them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are completely amazing and I couldn’t ask for better clients. I can’t wait for the wedding! Stay tuned for a fun engagement video, too :)

shelly & daniel: the day after (destination wedding photographer)
Other than the fact that they’re wicked fun, destination weddings are extra special because we get to shoot for a few days! Shelly & Daniel recently got married in Estes Park, and the next day, we headed to Rocky Mountain National Park for a fun day after / trash the dress session. I realized how spoiled I was when we were driving through the park and hit a traffic jam on the narrow, windy mountain road. Huge black thunderclouds threatened in the distance, we hadn’t started shooting yet, and I was getting a little frustrated. I knew if we didn’t hurry, we were going to get dumped on. So, we’re crawling along, we pass some elk on the road, and then traffic sort of let up. It took me a few minutes before I realized that traffic was stopped FOR the elk – everyone was taking pictures out their windows and ooh-ing and aah-ing. Me, I’m just like, “Elk, whatever, let’s go.” People from all over the world come to Rocky Mountain National Park probably just to see the elk, and I see them so regularly that I don’t care unless they’re about to hit my car :)
We finally found the perfect spot and pulled off the road and started shooting. Within minutes, people were honking and waving and yelling congratulations from their windows. One older German guy was cracking us up, shouting things like, (to Shelly) “You are ze best animal in ze park!” and (to Daniel) “You are ze best hunter I have met!” Which… you know… was a little awkward. But made us laugh. So there’s that.
Anyway. Here’s to timberline, marshy fields of wildflowers, and knowing what the elk feel like in front of the tourists.
Then it got all dark & stormy & awesome.

abbey & justin (burlington co wedding photographer)
Abbey had such a vision for this wedding, and her romantic, nighttime shabby chic theme came together in the most beautiful way. She is so kind and sweet and considerate, and all of her emails to me have more exclamation marks than words, which makes me smile every time I read them :) Their excitement for this weekend was contagious! I always love hearing about the details and all the work that goes into such an amazing celebration, and it was wonderful to see it all come to fruition this last weekend. Abbey & Justin got married in Burlington, CO, and I was absolutely honored to travel out there to shoot it. Let me just put this out there – I love traveling for weddings. It’s weird and probably unnatural to love long drives and long flights and hotel rooms, but I have to be totally honest and say that I do. Completely. Love it! I get to shoot somewhere brand new and I love seeing someplace for the first time through my photographic eyes; places that I might pass over if I lived there become amazing backdrops. Get married ANYWHERE and I will be there. We’ll make it work… I’m serious!
Congratulations, you two! Have fun in Mexico and thanks for the great weekend!
Ceremony: First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Burlington, CO
Reception: Burlington Community Center
Hair & Makeup: Rachelle Burgess
Flowers: a personal friend
Cake: Sharon Pikul
Dress: Maggie Sottero
Looove all these little candles in Mason Jars – so elegant!
When Abbey was on a mission trip to Brazil a few years ago, she kept noticing these gorgeous, unusual flowers and knew she wanted to incorporate them into her future wedding – and she did! She had to special-order them for the bridesmaids bouquets, and don’t they look incredible?
Just a disclaimer – the holding hands part was NOT. MY. IDEA. All the boys were so freaked out after finding some snakes in the grass, I think they were trying to console each other ;)
This girl is straight out of a magazine. Seriously.
It takes a seriously awesome bride to climb up a grain elevator in her wedding dress.
The community center looked amazing! I think they had over 360 candles hanging from the ceiling. As a photographer, it was a fun challenge to shoot in a near-dark room and still keep the intimate “candlelight” vibe.
Check out this awesome candy table!
LOVE this shot of the groom’s sister catching the bouquet :)
Congratulations, Abbey & Justin! The rest of your image will be ready in a few weeks :)
