carolyn & dan (aspen engagement photographer)
Carolyn & Dan forgave me for being super late to their engagement session when I called and explained that I was stuck on the highway behind an accident that involved a semi that had CAUGHT ON FIRE. In hindsight I’m actually kind of glad that it worked out the way it did, because when I finally got to their adorable Aspen home, the light was simply perfect. After our shoot at their home and at Maroon Bells (literally just down the road!) we went out to dinner and ended up having one of the deepest conversations I’ve ever had with clients about Life, the Universe, and Everything, and I loved every minute.
Dan & Carolyn, you guys are SO WONDERFUL and I can’t wait for your Aspen wedding – that meadow is going to be so stunning!

katie & brad’s washington dc engagement session
Last week, I flew out to DC for Katie and Brad’s engagement session, and we timed it perfectly to coincide with the National Cherry Blossom Festival! I had never been to DC before, and this was definitely the perfect time to be out there – especially because we don’t get much of a spring in BV. Katie & Brad were kind enough to drive me in circles all around town and we had so much fun getting to know each other while doing an epic & super speedy photographic tour of the city. These guys are so laid-back and fun to be around, and I’m really looking forward to their cozy destination wedding (for them :) at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort. Katie & Brad- it was so wonderful to finally get a chance to meet you! Thanks again for everything!
The National Cathedral was so stunning – maybe one of my new avorite places ever – and I never even knew it existed :/
The gardens there are AMAZING!
As is the architecture:
Model face!
Then on to some fun at Union Station…
Then towards the monuments for some fun, dramatically-lit shots. I love the mood of these.
What a fun session – destination engagement sessions are one of my favorite things ever!

[...] Katie & Brad had such a fun, laid-back wedding at Mount Princeton Hot Springs that was so clearly full of joy. In the middle of a rainy, gloomy streak of weather, we had one lovely day of sunshine and this was it. It couldn’t have been better. [...]

christine & dave’s lake tahoe / reno engagement session
Just got back from this gorgeous Lake Tahoe engagement session… Christine and I have been emailing for so long, I felt like I knew her before we had even spoken. It was so much fun to finally meet her and Dave on their home turf in Reno! Their wedding is coming up in less than a month in Durango, and it’s going to be amazing. I know a few secret details about it so I’m super excited! It was a pretty chilly day and Reno had just gotten dumped on, but I got to walk around and explore a little bit before our shoot started. The vibe of this place is so unique – it’s like a less glitzy, smaller Vegas, except they still have all the old neon signs, which I loved. It turns out that some of my favorite vintage-looking casino signs during the day were the one that were abandoned and didn’t light up at night.
Christine and Dave clearly love each other so much, and it was an honor to be there with them. Thank you guys so much for driving me through two states for such a fun engagement session! I can’t wait for the wedding!
One of my favorite things to do when I’m in a new place is wander around with my camera and try to figure out how the town feels to me, if that makes any sense… so, a few fun shots of downtown Reno:
Lake Tahoe was incredible. I had never been, but loved wading through several feet of snow with my camera and their sweet dog :)
Not a bad shot, considering it was taken out of a car window:
The water is unbelievably blue. Like, Caribbean blues and turquoises…. so pretty!
Christine is a geologist, so this ring shot seemed appropriate:
Thanks again, guys! Your wedding is going to be so incredible – I can’t wait! :)

monica & scott (denver engagement photographer)
I first met Monica when she was a bridesmaid in Shelly & Daniel’s wedding this last summer. Now she’s engaged to a wonderful person herself, and they are both so much fun to be around! I’m so excited to be shooting their wedding at the Boettcher Mansion this upcoming summer. We had an awesome engagement session and started out around Golden where it was downright COLD (thanks for hanging in there, guys) and then headed to LoDo for some fun downtown shots.
Loved these heart-shaped chairs at The Market :
I love the feel of these last two – for some reason I keep thinking it feels like a James Bond movie:
Thanks so much, guys! Can’t wait for the wedding :)

sarah & ryan
I’ll be honest … I don’t really know how to write this one. It’s been in my drafts folder for several weeks as Sarah and I played phone tag, and it just didn’t feel quite right to post yet… so here goes the original:
Sarah and Ryan have been together for several years. They’ve known each other since high school, and when I asked them how they met, Sarah joked about following him around until he gave in and started paying attention to her :) Now they’ve fallen in love, they have an adorable puppy… and Ryan has cancer. Everywhere.
As soon as Sarah contacted me about doing a session, I just knew it was something that was absolutely essential for me to do. Ryan was in a lot of pain that day, but the images we got are sweet and real and wonderful anyway. Meeting both of these awesome people has made my life brighter. Sarah & Ryan : thank you, thank you, thank you.
As I mentioned above, I wrote this post a few weeks ago and have just been sitting on it until I got the okay from Sarah. She stopped by the studio yesterday morning to let me know, over tears and coffee, that Ryan recently passed away. We did the session at just the right time – within a few days of our shoot, he was in too much pain to leave the house. Sarah, my dear – my heart goes out to you. I know words are totally useless at a time like this, but I love you already and I can’t wait to get to know you better.
If you’d like to make a donation to Sarah & Ryan’s photography registry, please contact me directly.
If you’d like to join with me in making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Ryan’s name, just let me know.

Molly, this breaks my heart. Dear Sarah, we don’t know each other, but I honor you and Ryan at this time. If I could write twenty readable paragraphs, they’d all be about you, Ryan, and the arduous road ahead. May God bless you and comfort you. And Molly, thank you for the pictures of love wrapped in beauty. What a gift.

Ohh, wow. This one is a toughie. What a gift you were able to give her. THIS is why we’re photographers. The one of them sitting by the lake… there’s just no words. You captured it.
I just can’t imagine that loss.

I had tears in my eyes as I looked at every picture. Some how you were able to put the depth of love onto film and it is amazing. Molly, what you did was everything I could possibly dream about and so much more. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
So pretty! The Maroon Bells make such a dramatic backdrop!
